Is it safe to leave Christmas lights on through the night?

During the holidays, the glow of the Christmas tree at home takes our breath away. It gives us an extraordinary experience. But... is it safe to leave the lights on when we're away? Yet there are so many reasons why we want to leave them on.

Here are a few key tips from our experts that are good to follow. That way we can make sure our home is safe.

1.    Your home insurance may cover fire damage caused by Christmas decorations. Nevertheless, keep in mind that prevention is by far the better approach..

2.    We recommend always turning off lights before you go to bed or leave home for several reasons.

  • Minimize the risk of your home suffering fire damage due to a spark, short circuit or other accident.
You reduce the amount of electricity you use and therefore the cost of it.
  • Even if we are aware of these possible situations, many of us want to leave Christmas lights on all the time.

When can you afford to do it:

  • Make sure you purchase the right type of lights to use. This may include Christmas decorations designed for long-term use. It should be a higher quality product - look for the UL rating on a case-by-case basis. Follow all instructions and comply with manufacturers' warnings on how to use these lights.
  • Remember, you must not overload the electrical sockets! Be aware of your available power limitations. Ignoring this can pose a dangerous problem for your property.
  • Use an automatic shut-off timer for Christmas lights and lights. This is one of the best ways to minimize risks. A timer for Christmas lights can control how long they are on, reducing at least some of the frustration that overwhelms you that they may not be on all night.
  • Many artificial Christmas trees with lights are designed to be used for long periods of time without being turned off and on frequently. However, even they need to be monitored from time to time. Be sure to carefully consider each product you buy, including who the manufacturer is, what safety rating the product requires, and where the device may be used. This is important to keep your home safe.

Axiom's recommendation is: Whenever possible, avoid leaving Christmas lights on unattended.

Our home will look great when we're there, and at the same time we'll have ensured safety for our family and property.
